In 1925 Carl Drake opened Drake’s Bakery on Massachusetts St. in Downtown Lawrence, KS. For 45 years the bakery produced high quality products including Drake’s Fruitcake.

Carl Drake referred to Drake’s Fruitcake as a “confection”. Choice fruits, dates and pecans are combined with a rich batter of eggs and butter to make Drake’s Fruitcake a mildly sweet and special treat for the holidays. Pepared without liquor or citron, this full-bodied cake will delight members of the new generation of fruitcake lovers as well as long-time fans.

The bakery closed in the early ‘70s. However, using the bakery’s recipe, Carl Drake’s grandson Don Martin along with his wife Maria, returned the fruitcake to the market in 1995 and Drake’s Fruitcake is again a holiday tradition.
